“My overall experience in traveling through the Northern Judean region was very enlightening and heartwarming. The people that I met along the way were friendly and the sights were beautiful. Whether I was in Nokdim, Tekoa, or driving in between towns, there was almost always the sight of the Herodian Palace. For me, seeing the Herodian throughout the day from all of those different places and angles was powerful because it made me imagine what it was like thousands of years ago when the palace was functioning. Throughout the day, it was also noticeable that much of the land in the region is barren and could be developed into something great.

The main message that I walked away from this day of traveling with was that the history of the region must be recognized by all parties that are seriously interested in making peace. The Herodian could tell the whole story and learning its background, along with the history of ancient towns like Tekoa would be very helpful for the international community looking to castigate Israelis as colonialists. Also, the region surrounds Jerusalem from above, essentially securing the holy city.

The ‘Jerusalem Discovery’ initiative is so necessary because it can be used to show visitors the deep history of the region, while also educating them about the security that the region provides.”
