The Jerusalem Discovery- Itinerary for half day/ full day guided visit

The purpose of this full day guided visit, is getting to hear firsthand the personalized stories that will introduce the Gush Etzion region. We’ll meet informally with some of the local residents and hear their story. The content of this visit will emphasize the security-strategic aspect of this region and promote open dialogue and co-existence.

8:30- 10:30-  Outskirts of Efrat. The capital of Gush Etzion.

We will walk along the ancient aqueduct that connected this region to Bethlehem and Jerusalem in ancient times, starting with the National Heritage site- ‘The Biyar’ aqueduct.  We will then discover new excavations underway of the aqueduct on the Eitam hill.
Eitam Hill’- A strategic hill situated between Eastern and Western Gush Etzion which overlooks Jerusalem and Bethlehem.

10:45- 11:25 – Efrat’s Emergency Center.

Efrat has more doctors per capita than any other city in Israel.  We will meet with leading doctors of Efrat’s Emergency Center and hear about the treatments and services they provide to the Arab communities around Gush Etzion.

11:40-12:00- ‘Rami-Levi”- The largest Jewish owned supermarket in Gush Etzion.

We will act as observers and survey the true coexistence in this place.  Arab families and workers from Bethlehem and neighboring Arab towns shop and work side by side with their Jewish neighbors.
Meet with Manager of Rami-Levi.

12:05-13:15- Gush Etzion Winery Visitor Center.

We will start with lunch and then get a private wine tasting tour, while hearing the story of Gush Etzion, through the different wines that are produced at this place.

13:45 – 14:45-  The Herodion National Heritage Site.

Judea’s #1 tourist site. The highest fortress in the Judean desert. Overlooks Jerusalem, The Judean Desert, Mountains of Moab to the East and Judean Mountains to the South. 360 degree observation point at the top of Herodion.

15:00 – 15:20- Nokdim. Herodion’s Jewish community.

Home visit, coffee & cake.

15:20-16:50- Hiking & overlooking ancient Monasteries.

Up to 500 Monasteries in the Judea desert region. The first Christians Monks in recorded history
Meet with community organizer who will to take us on a short tour of the area and get a feel of the Desert frontier.

Open house in Nokdim. Introduction to Northern Judea and to the Herodion’s Jewish community.

9:40- 11:20- Hiking & Overlooking Ancient Monasteries.

Meet with community organizer who will to take us on a short tour of the area and get a feel of the Desert frontier.

11:30- 12:15- Lunch in Se’de Bar : Organic Goat Cheese Farm. Greetings by a local resident.

12:25- 13:30- The Herodion National Heritage Site.

10:30- 11:10 – Drive with Jeep to Mar-Saba Monastery.

11:10- 12:00 – Overlooking the most spectacular active monastery in the Judea Desert.

12:00- 12:40 – Scapegoat hill-top in times of the Jewish Temples.

12:40- 13:30 – Saint George Monastery.

13:30 – Lunch in Kfar Adomim.
